The Gendron Franco Center, Lewiston

his seasonal concert performed by the Maine Music Society Chorale has become a beloved holiday tradition and is certainly a highlight of the season. Once again, the Chorale will focus on Christmas music from the United States with such favorites as “White Christmas”, “I’ll be home for Christmas” and “It’s the most wonderful time of the year!” This year we will have special guests Rabbi Sruli Dresdner and his wife Lisa from Temple Shalom, Auburn, who will perform traditional Klezmer Music and Chanukah Songs. We will join together for an ancient and mystical melody as well as favorites “Chanukah O Chanukah” and “I Have a Little Dreydl.” Klezmer is the joyous and soulful music of the Eastern European Jews, and the Chanukah Holiday celebrates redemption and the light inside all of us. To top off this holiday season’s celebration everyone will join in singing several Christmas carols.

Mozart Requiem

Bach Mass in B Minor
Saturday, March 24 at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, March 25 at 3 p.m.

Gendron Franco Center, Lewiston

he MMS Chorale and Orchestra will present the incredible Requiem by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as its classical concert for the year. This work is shrouded in mystery. For whom did Mozart compose this requiem? And since he was composing literally on his deathbed, dictating to his assistant Sussmayer, who completed it? So much of the music exists only in sketches, but despite this rough background, the Requiem has become one of the most beloved works by Mozart. Some of the themes are regularly used for TV commercials so there will be many familiar sounds. Our talented singers and professional soloists and instrumentalists are excited to perform this magnificent work by one of the most celebrated composers of the late 18th century.

Songs of the Great American Songbook

King and Taylor

Saturday May 19 at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, May 20 at 3 p.m.

The Gendron Franco Center, Lewiston

he Chorale’s spring concert will highlight the music of two of the most celebrated early 20th century composers: George Gershwin and Cole Porter. These two giants of popular song composing wrote so many favorites. With titles like “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” and “Just One of Those Things” by Cole Porter and “They Can’t Take That Away From Me,” “S’Wonderful” and “I’ve Got Rhythm” by George Gershwin, everyone will want to sing along. It’s hard to believe that almost a century has gone by since these jazzy tunes were popular, but they never lose their charm. To be sure, everyone will be delighted by the songs of these spectacular composers.
