CONCERT  III -  SOUNDS DIVINE

Missa in Angustiis ("Lord Nelson Mass") by Franz Joseph Haydn
Lux Aeterna by Morten Lauridsen

Androsccoggin Chorale and Maine Chamber Ensemble
John Corrie, Conductor

The Androscoggin Chorale and the Maine Chamber Ensemble will perform two stunning choral works separated by two centuries.

The first work will be Franz Joseph Haydn’s most famous Missa in Angustiis, better known by its nicknamed title – the Lord Nelson Mass – which honors Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson and his success at the Naval battle at Trafalgar. This magnificent work was composed at the height of Haydn’s compositional career and is a favorite of choral singers and audiences everywhere.

The second work the chorale and the ensemble will perform is a large scale work by Morten Lauridsen  - Lux Aeterna which is an extended work by this living Oregonian composer.  The audience will remember being enchanted by several others works by this composer sung in our last season.  The luscious warmth of each of his compositions has inspired audiences to request more of Lauridsen’s pieces.

The performance will be on April 6 at 3 p.m. at the Franco-American Heritage Center, Lewiston.
